The Shadow of the Wind

There has been so much enthuasiastic praise about this english publication of the famous Spanish novel by a talented author, Carlo Ruis Zafon. You know when there is so much hype about a certain book, you usually read in caution, trying to analyze if you are liking the book more and more. And if you end up not liking it the same way others did, then you are just disappointed. However, when a hyped book starts delivering by its every word.. that’s when you know enthusiasm is well-deserved.

The novel is rare, a little obscure. I can not type out the summary or even the main plot of the book, for it is far too complex for me to do that. I will say, that this is a story of many things; mystery, family, fantasy, love stories, politics, etc. The most important thing when you are reading this is that you take your time. Do not rush it. This book is meant to be understood and taken delicately.

It could have been shorter than what it is, and a little bit more coherent at times. It is a bit melodramatic at times, but even then, the important literary elements were served. Honestly though, I didn’t really care. The writing was too good to care about those petit things. The characters were memorable, and there were just the right amount of everything. This book is definitely one of those I would definitely recommend, read again, and even buy. Read it!
