Genre: Young Adult
Synopsis: Amy is having a rough year. Her father just died, and her family is falling apart. Now her mother decides it's time for them to move and start a new life. So she sets Amy off to embark on a trip across the country from their old home in California to their new one in Connecticut. Her mother assigns a designated driver to come along with Amy, and this is where Roger comes along. Together, they are in for a one-of-a-kind road trip; one with many detours and many surprises along the way.

Review: Looking for the ultimate summer read? This is it. Amy and Roger's Epic Detour will take you to a journey through Amy's narratives and through her small travel bits. The book contains photos of places, receipts, and random memorabilias from their trip. It was such a unique thing to put in a novel, and yet I ADORED it. Seeing what they actually bought during their pit stops at minimarts, gas stations, diners, fast food places, etc is an experience itself. I for one, truly felt like I was with Amy and Roger during their trip.

Not only was the book able to make me want to take a road trip, but it also made me really get to know Amy and Roger. They are extremely likable and believable. I liked their narratives, their dialogues, among many others. One thing though, that I loved is their development as characters. It is effortless. In fact, I am amazed with how the author does this -- especially with Amy, as she grows with every chapter. Never forced or fake. The transitions are smooth, and like I already mentioned, quite effortless.

Of course, with every book, the story has to end. I seriously didn't want this one to finish. In a way, when it ended, I felt exactly how these two characters felt; sad that the journey is over. I wanted to see more of Amy and of Roger, and them together. I wanted to find out more and know what will happen next. I just didn't want it to be finished so soon.

Overall, I have to say that I fell in love with this novel. It was such a fun story. It was sweet, funny, cute, and sometimes even touching. I loved all the characters and the settings, their development, the conclusion, the writing, the narratives, the random travel tidbits. That being said, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read. Warning though, after you finish this, you might just go on and call your friends and tell them about this little plan you have, where someone will drive and someone will buy snacks and play songs.. while crossing the country...... Just a warning, because Amy and Roger's Epic Detour will in fact do this to you.
