if i had 30 days left to live.

Musing Mondays is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. This week, she asks: If you knew you only had 30 days left to live, would books and reading still hold such a great priority in your life? Or, would you set aside your reading to do something else, spend more of your time elsewhere? What would you do, instead?

Well, first off, if I only had 30 days to live and I knew about it, I'd spend every single hour with my family and my friends. I would write letters to my loved ones, to tell them how I feel for them, and all that. I would probably try out things I've never tried before -- although I still would never bungee jump!

Reading-wise, I'll most likely pick up and reread some of my old favorites. The Harry Potter series, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.. I might read The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery, 100 Love Sonnets by Pablo Neruda again. I'll stick to them, just because they make up my "reading life" in a lot of ways, and I'd want to go back to them. To be honest though, I don't know if I'd actually read them or just skim through them. In fact, I'll probably just bring them along with me wherever I go so they can keep me company in the end.. :)

  1. Ahh.. the Harry Potter series...absolutely! But, I'd be more than likely to spend all the time with friends and family, too!

  2. That is such a hard question! I think I would be spending my time with family and friends and traveling to the places I needed to visit. I'm sure I'd bring books on those journeys with me :)

  4. Coffee and a Book Chick - I don't think I'll even read them.. I'll just skim through them and have them by my side as company. LOL

Jamie - I'd love to travel too!! With my loved ones and my books, that'd be great!

Vampires and Tofu - He is my favorite poet as well. My favorite one from him has got to be Sonnet 17. What's yours?

  5. My version of the afterlife would include all of the wonderful books I read along with all of the books I would ever want to read. So I probably wouldn't spend time reading--I would spend every waking moment with my family and friends!

  6. I would probably balance my time between reading the bible, doing daring things like bungee jumping and sailing, and spending time with my loved ones.

If I had only thirty days left to live, family would definitely be more of a priority than reading!

If I had only thirty days left to read, however . . . I think that would be incentive enough to actually start The Hunger Games. Might as well find out what everyone is raving about, aye? I don't think I'd do much rereading; it would be about the stuff I've always wanted to get to, but have been putting off.

    What an interesting question! =)

  8. (I actually would like to know the year I was going to die -- would get so many of the important things done.) I talked about something like this with a family member who was diagnosed with Alzheimers. In reading books, he said he would probably read more educational things. I thought, "why?" (you're not going to remember them anyway) I would want to read for pleasure--favorite books or ones that make you feel good and make you laugh.
