Right now I am sitting staring at my computer, trying to come up with something to talk about. Nothing is coming out. Blank. Zero ideas.
Do you ever get this annoying blogger's block? I have a very bad case of it right now for sure. I don't know if it's because I'm writing this at 11am (this is a scheduled post) which is in itself is unusual - as my writing/blogging brain typically works well late at night. Perhaps. Or maybe it's because I need to discover a new favorite read. Although I have read many and liked some, I really can't remember the last time I truly fell in love with a book, to be honest.
So as always, I come to you for help.
1) Do you ever get blogger's block? What do you do to cure it?
2) What inspires you, and where do you get ideas for blog posts?
3) Recommend me a book you personally think is amazing.
And as always, thank you. Which reminds me - sometimes I really, really think, "What would I do if I didn't have reader friends like you?" Sounds cheesy, but it's so true! Where will all my book and reading-related thoughts go if not here?
Any kind of block sucks bigtime. Luckily I haven't had the displeasure of experiencing it from a blogger perspective. This may sound corny, but when I get writer's block, I take a walk or go out into the big wide world and try to live in it again as opposed to being a crazy blog stalker. Usually, I find this not only invigorates me, but gives me a lot of stimulus to work with. Hope this helps and you find something that inspires you soon Jillian.
ReplyDeleteAww Jillian, that sucks! I was just thinking the same the other day, that I read many books that I liked but it's been a while that I really fell in love with a book.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find something that excites you very soon.
Sometimes I'm not feeling the love for blogging and when that happens I usually just ignore it for a few days and then I seems to get the feeling back for blogging :-) And for a book recommendation, I just read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and cried it's so beautiful! Highly recommend it :-)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I want to take a long break from blogging. I get writer's block where I start writing a book review and then get stuck. It seems to happen more and more frequently these days. At times I wish I could just read without having to write reviews :) My creativity has gone down the drain too. I hardly ever write book related posts besides reviews and memes. That makes me sad and frustrated. I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteAs far as amazing books, there is one I really enjoyed (it will be published in September) by a debut author: The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. I also loved Divergent by Veronica Roth.
Oh you know me. I get blocked or bored and I change my layout. New colors inspire me. But that's a big thing to do.
ReplyDeleteBut if you are looking for bookish inspiration, the kind that alters the very shape of your soul just a wee bit, try Nation by Terry Pratchett.
Or if you just need a pick-me-up and want one that you can revisit over and over again for a good laugh, Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flagg
Oh Jillian I love these random posts. Well with me I just don't blog. Like it's been nearly a week since my last post until yesterday's and I think if you are having a block then relax. Watch a movie, anime, have fun with friends and family, catch up with a book and then post about either when you're in the mood. Or you could just do a post like this or ask questions because I enjoy anything you post anyway ;)
ReplyDeleteYes! I know what you mean. It happens to me all the time. I usually just take a few days off and ease back in with a discussion post or meme.
ReplyDeleteNeed a good read? Try Waterfall (http://www.amazon.com/Waterfall-Novel-Lisa-T-Bergren/dp/1434764338) it's superb!
I get blogging blocks to. Usually I just relax and do other things that life demands of me and the block eventually passes. For me, more than getting ideas for blog posts (if nothing else, there are plenty of memes) the problem is time to write them. As for book recommendation: I think you might be fed up with me recommending Kate Mosse, but her books were those really amazing to me recently, and I think you'd like Random Magic by Sasha Soren, it's amazing, too.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower :) Found you while out searching!

Yep, I guess it happens to everyone once in a while! What do I do when I a blogging block? Absolutely nothing. I do other stuff, and it usually comes back after a while. Sometimes, I don't update my blog for two or three weeks, but it's no big deal... It always comes back in the end for me ;)
ReplyDeleteAs for the last book I really enjoyed: the Spellman files by Lisa Lutz. Have you read it? It's so much fun!
So many books so little time, I say go READ :-) You don't need to post everyday hon, I know that's your goal but unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteGo for the Dan Wells trilogy, start with I am not a serial killer.
Lan - A walk definitely sounds nice - maybe this weekend I'll do it :)
ReplyDeleteSelina - There are many books I enjoyed, but not really "loved." Maybe I'll find it soon!
mummazappa - Oooh a like a good book that makes its readers cry! Haha. I will check that out from the library, thank you for the recommendation
Christina t - I always get stuck writing book reviews as well, especially if they are a couple I have to write. I have also heard The Girl of Fire and Thorns is really good! Reminds me a bit of the Hunger Games though to be honest, but that's what's making me even more excited lol
LifeafterJane - I have not read any Terry Pratchett before but I might just try it. Thanks for the rec!
Aly - Usually I also don't just blog! But sometimes I WANT to write something, but nothing comes out sadly. I just have to wait itout, I guess :)
Juju - Thank you for the rec; I will check it out for sure.
Pepca - I guess we should just be thankful that at least the block DOES pass! Oh and I WILL look up Kate Mosee. Do you have any specific titles from her that you especially liked?
stargirlreads - Thank you for following!
Touloulou - "Absolutely nothing" sounds really nice too! :)
Marce - Haha I am trying to read as many books as possible before school starts again. oh and posting everyday isn't really a goal to me - I guess it's just weird because I always have blog post ideas and the blogger's block comes very rarely. Oh and I just put I am not a Serial Killer on hold from the library. Thank you! :)
Don't feel under pressure:) As for your question for specific titles from K. Mosse: The Winter Ghosts, Labyrinth, Sepulchre
ReplyDeleteBloggers block happens to the best of us. Top ten lists are always a fun topic to blog about. Or how about reposting one of your old reviews? Andi f all else fails, I like to post favorite poetry.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
My TBB list extends into infinity so I'm never at a loss for posting ideas but many times I just don't feel like blogging any of them-- so not so much a block as pure laziness. And if I go days or even weeks between posts, it doesn't bother me. And I know as a blog reader I prefer to read less prolific blogs, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe book sections of news sites are good for ideas. Literary history, quotes or bookish photos are always good blog fodder. I love your polyvore and inspiration posts-- do more of those, please. :o)
I just finished Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan and really liked it.
I hate it when that happens! Carrie Pilby by Caren Lissner is one of my favourite books! I totally recommend that book!
ReplyDeleteI only post when I have something to say. Sometimes that's often, sometimes not. I know I don't post regularly like some others do, and readers may expect more posts. But I want to make blogging fun, not a chore. Hence why I am still so behind with my reviews... I want to write when I want to write, not because I have to.
ReplyDeleteLike Marce said, go read instead :) I hate reading block more than blogging block! :)
pepca - I will try to look into those books. Thank you for the recommendations!
ReplyDeletenaida - Poetry always seems to work for me as well.
Lesa - I will try doing that suggestion, thank you.
Nina - Yes I loved that book. I actually reviewed it and linked you to it. The author even left a comment :D
christa - I unfortunately have both right now, but that is very good advice.

ReplyDeleteWhat I do is "give up" by publishing a post that I think is just so-so (relative to the level of quality I usually demand for my blog). I get unblocked almost instantly--as if my pride is trying to make up for the "bad" writing. LOL!
Good luck breaking out of this, Jillian! =)
E - I do that all the time too. But for some reason it's just not working for me even this time around. I seriously blame this on not being able to find an "amazing" book lately.
ReplyDeleteUsually my "blocks" are related to stress or craziness offline. August was super busy/stressful for me & it seriously impacted my blogging and commenting. Thankfully I had lots of guest posts/interviews/reviews scheduled for blog tours that I'd scheduled in advance. If not my blog would have been a ghost town all of last month. My brain could only focus on what was going on at home these last few weeks.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better. I hate when those dreaded reading slumps & blogging blocks attack.
Christie - August was not that busy/stressful for me, actually, and funny enough, THAT may also be the reason why I had a huge reading slump and blogger's block. I simply was too bored! I couldn't get inspiration from anywhere! Funny how that works out huh, haha. Thank you:)
