Ran out of books?!?

Saturday, April 10, 2010

This is sort of an unbelievable situation. See, I have officially ran out of books in the house! I thought the five books I let myself focus on this week was going to suffice, but apparently not. So for this coming weekend, I have nothing to read. Not.one.book.

Believe me when I say I have a long TBR list, but the thing is, they're all either coming from the library -- and haven't arrived yet -- or to be purchased soon -- but didn't get the chance to be bought yet. The other truth is, I'm a bad shopper. I rarely buy anything for myself, since I feel a bit guilty when I spend $$. So I try to limit myself with my book purchases; two books only, per week. Three or four, if I'm feeling the urge to splurge. So I told myself, the smartest thing to do is to simply wait for the library to have it available for me to check out. Well... apparently, this is not so smart, because right now, I ended up with no book at all. I have to say, this is kind of amazing. A sad and horrible thing, yes, but amazing nonetheless. This just doesn't often happen.

I guess this calls for either:
a.) re-read previous books
b.) make an 'emergency' trip to the library and bookstore tomorrow for new finds.

I pick B.
So now I wonder, does your 'supply of books' ever run out? And I don't mean you running out of book ideas, recommendations, or a TBR list -- because we all know we have way too many of those! ;) What I mean is; do you find yourself in this kind of situation? When you are looking for the next book to devour, you find that there's nothing available at the moment. Or is this just me...?

  2. Yes this happened before and it's truly horrible so I feel wit you girl! But since I own a kindle this time is over! I love my kindle whenever I finished a book I can directly buy the next one. No waiting time!!! Sure this also means I buy every book I read but that's fine with me,since this also means I can reread it anytime!!

I am stunned. I have over thirty books I have to get around to reading, and others I know have even bigger "TBR" piles. I never thought I'd read that a book blogger had run out of new books!

On the other hand, I'm also very impressed! I'd love to have no big pile of books waiting to be read, with only potential rereads in my library. That's kind of a goal of mine at the moment, but since I keep buying new books, I don't think it's very realistic.

  4. Wow! This has never happened to me before. Mostly because I have a habit of buying lots of new books, forgetting I have them, then finding them again. I'm also lucky that I can borrow my mom's book picks. My TBR list is never ending. I'm sure you'll find something great to read next.

  5. @joehebden: I have a lot of favorite books, but recently I read this YA novel by Lauren Oliver called Before I Fall. I also liked 'Still Alice' by Lisa Genova. What's yours?

@Mrs. Vanquish: Okay, glad that I'm not alone in this..

@E and @Jazz R.J.: I have a long TBR "list." The problem is, I haven't picked them up yet.
I used to the have this problem though, of buying books all the time, that eventually, my pocket would snap at me when I'd reach for it. LOL. And that is why there are now limits.. haha.

  6. Never! I am in debt over books...and proud. There are over 60 books sitting on my to read shelf/kindle. My addiction is well fed.

If you haven't read The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen, I recommend picking that up. You'll have a delightful time.

  9. Does your library have an online branch? I can download audio and ebooks from the ebranch of my library. It's really a wonderful invention. I didn't think I would be able to read a book on my computer, but you would be surprised at how easy it is. At least it could tide you over until you have a "real" book in your hands.

Thankfully, after posting this comment, I'm off to the store and the library! :D

@Life After Jane: I have a lot of titles in my tbr list -- too many, haha. The problem with me is the supply.

    @Emmagan: Let's hope it doesn't! ;)

@Carin: 250? I think you're well-stocked. Congrats and thank you, I will get to the library asap haha.

@Kim: Oohh I have never heard of that.. I didn't know you could do that. I'm off to check it out now and let you know if it works for my library. Thank you!

@Steph: I know.. it really is lol

  11. It happens occasionally---- for me it is a very antsy feeling-- maybe a miniscule bit of what drug withdrawal might feel like. I just reread a fave till I can hightail it to the library!
