your favorite love stories.

Sunday, November 20, 2011

Lately, I've been reading about not so heartwarming things. Zombies, vampires, dystopian fiction, mystery/crime thrillers, horror... the list goes on. I thought I should use December, which is my favorite time of the year, to catch up on love stories for a change.

To be honest, I am not much of a romance reader, but if you have any suggestions and recommendations, please tell me! Contemporary love stories would be best, but I welcome any kind, really. You already know I'll be ready to list them all down and get them from the library. So thanks, as always, and I hope you all are having a great November so far :)

p.s. - I am aware that this is the second 'recommend me something' post this week! I am having a bad reading slump that I want so badly to go away before December arrives!

  4. Ps I love you. Not sure if you've read it, but you can't go wrong with it :) Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta (probably my most favourite book ever) 'The Summer I turned pretty by Jenny Han' is part of a lovely heart-warming series. Has one of my favourite love triangles. :)

Juju - Not not necessarily :) just love stories in general!

Aly - I've read that one and loved it too! Jellicoe Road is also one of my favorites! I have never read the one from Jenny Han so i'll check that one out since you and I usually have the same taste and opinions on books :)

  7. I am sucker for the classics when it comes to love stories. :)

For bridging the gap between all the dark genres and romance, I'd suggest Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera. Classic story of love and obsession, and still very dark.

Another of my favorites is Ophelia by Lisa Klein. It's a retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet, told from Ophelia's point of view. Great book, stunning love story!

    Hope you enjoy!

  8. I like to re-read "The Unlikely Romance of Kate Bjorkman" by Louise Plummer every holiday season. It's Christmasy and sweet and unique. Don't let the cover fool you :)

  10. I'm a sucker for classic love stories and the most romantic one I've read in ages is Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen. It's savoury. Then watch the Hugh Grant-Emma Thompson-Kate Winslet-Alan Rickman movie. *Sigh*

Kathryn - Thanks! I'll check that one out.

Melissa - I LOVE that book! So good.

Teacher/Learner - Sense and Sensibility's good too though I haven't read it in a while. Oh and I've never seen that version. Maybe one of these days.
