quote of the day + thrill week

Saturday, September 3, 2011

I love quotes, but I have to admit, I never really take the time to jot down page chapters and write down wonderful lines from books. However, every once in a while, I come across certain quotes and simply can not pass up the chance - I have to take note of them, write them down, and remember them. When I read The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, this was one of those that I couldn't help but fall in love with.

"I never read without making sure I am in a secure position. I have been like this ever since the age of seven when, sitting on a high wall and reading The Water Babies, I was so seduced by the descriptions of underwater life that I unconsciously relaxed my muscles. Instead of being held buoyant by the water that so vividly surrounded me in my mind, I plummeted to the ground and knocked myself out. I can still feel the scar under my fringe now. Reading can be dangerous."

And in other news, I do want to go ahead and mention about a fellow blogger's project. Enter Thrill Week at Tea Time with Marce... if you are a fan of Thrillers, Mysteries, Suspense, and Horror... then this event is for you. Visit her blog for more details :) Other than that, I hope you have a great weekend!

  2. Awesome quote. I think the first time I wrote a quote down from was from book PS I LOVE YOU. That was pretty much my first tearjerker and I wrote down like all 10/ 11 letters. I was determined. I get kinda lazy so haven't done it since but what I do tend to do is leave the little tissues in the book *what I tend to use to bookmark* :P and at times I go back to a book and flip through it and I see the little tissues and can find those lovely quotes all over again, it's a nice feeling.

  3. I love that quote. It's so true.

Years ago (when I lived in New York City for a spell) I use to read on the subway. Only to find myself so engrossed, I'd look up too late and find out I missed my stop. ;)

  4. Reading is dangerous - this is true, I haven't fallen off anything while reading (I can do that already without reading:)) but I am familiar with missing bus stops.

  5. Love this quote :) I really love Goodreads for keeping track of quotes I love. I wish they had the option to add page numbers though.

  6. Great quote. I have that book in my TBR. Thrill week sounds like fun...thanks for the link.

  7. Aly - Aw PS I LOVE YOU was great :)

Juju - Haha that used to happen to me a lot too when I still couldn't drive and had to take a bus from school to my house!

Pepca - I'm familiar with that "phenomenon" as well ;)

Kathy - Glad you liked it! Love the book it came from too :)

Christie - I used to be on Goodreads, but yes, I agree, that website definitely is awesome for keeping track of book quotes!
