Catching Fire + how I hated Mockingjay and want to reread it now

Sunday, December 8, 2013

I was able to see Catching Fire the day it came out, in the morning, so the theater was practically empty. It was wonderful being able to watch it peacefully. As far as the movie goes, it was so awesome! I can not stop gushing about how well it was adapted, in my opinion.

Jennifer Lawrence really does portray Katniss' different characteristics, and it's nice to see her character evolve from the first film. I also loved Johanna and Finnick so much! I thought they were perfect.
Also, Josh Hutcherson, has proven once again for me, that he really is the best choice for Peeta. I feel for him, empathize, and truly root for him.

I loved it so much I had to see it again with my sister two weeks later. It was still good, if not better, because I was able to notice little details I didn't notice before.

As far as Mockingjay goes, I am excited to see how they adapt it to a film again. I have no doubts they will do a good job, but here's where I have an issue: I feel very indifferent about the book. I liked it in a way, but I also hated it. To me, it was just lacking a bit. Something was definitely missing. In the end, I felt completely underwhelmed. I also just didn't like the outcome of it all: I understand that the point of the novels is pretty much to show what war does to both sides, but I didn't like how it was executed. That being said, I am thinking about rereading Mockingjay just to remind myself again of the story, and maybe, I will change my mind. Or I won't. I'll let you know.

Did you see Catching Fire? What did you think about it? What was your favorite part? Did you like Finnick and Johanna? And what did you think of Mockingjay? Do you agree with me or not? Let me know!

  1. I absolutely adored Catching fire. I wasn't a huge fan of Mockingjay, but seeing the cast and how awesome they are, I think there is a chance I'm going to like it as a movie :)

  2. Catching Fire was so good! You'll never hear me say "the movie was better than the book" except maybe for this one! The book felt like kind of a rehash of the first one, but this movie made it all come together for me. I don't know how they can make Mockingjay a good movie though.

  3. I loved it as well!!!! I haven't been again yet, but I want to see Catching Fire for a second time soooooo badly. Johanna was A-mazing, and though I enjoyed Finnick, I thought they could've just done more with him. I absolutely fell in love with his character in the book. I mean, like, he was one of my favorites, so I could always have a little more Finnick. And like you said, Jennifer and Josh are perfect for their roles; I root for both of them--and for them to be together in the end :-). I actually really enjoyed Mockinjay, too, although I really hated how Peeta was so messed up by the mindjacking and how he kind of had to change b/c of that storyline. BUT, that ending...the "real or not real?"...swoon!!! I still love that line <3

    1. I fell in love with Finnick in the movie, although that is probably because of the good lookin' actor.. haha. And yeah, "real or not real?" will forever stay with me.
