i finally fed my addiction.

You know when other people feel "naked" without a watch on their wrist? That's exactly how I felt yesterday when I discovered that I had zero books to read. It was sort of an unbelievable situation to be stuck in, and I felt that it didn't matter whether or not I was planning to read last night. The effect was automatic; I felt like I was stripped off a presence of something 'familiar.' I found that having books (and unread ones at that) around me was a source of a much-needed coziness -- a comforting little thing. So it felt really unfamiliar and odd to find no books around me at all.
As I said from yesterday's post, I was going to take a trip to the library and the bookstore ASAP. Today, that's exactly what I did. Here's the books I got!

Purchased:

1. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
2. The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan -- I finished the other four, maybe a month ago. But I decided not to read the last book yet because I didn't want the series to end. Haha.
3. Still Alice by Lisa Genova -- read this, and decided I have to have a copy of my own.

Picked up from the Library:
(you can click on the image to have a larger view)

1. Angelology by Danielle Trussoni
2. Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper
3. A Ring of Endless Light by Madeleine L' Engle
4. Great Mischief by Josephine Pinckney

5. The Man Who Loved Books Too Much (non-fiction) by Allison Hoover Bartlett
6. Fablehaven by Brandon Mull
7. Make Lemonade by Virginia Euwer Wolff
8. Book of Greek Myths by D' Aulaires -- Yeah, you can blame Percy Jackson for this one.

9. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
10. The Lost City of Z by David Grann
11. Beautiful Boy by David Sheff
12. The Last Child by John Hart

Still on hold: Library books

1. The Complete Stories by Flannery O' Connor
2. Apologize, Apologize! by Elizabeth Kelly
3. The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
4. Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler

There you have it for my loot for now! Have you read any of these? Let me know what you thought about it! My "TBR list" is a lot longer, like yours probably are, but I have yet to find my sources for them. One thing's for sure though; I will not let the 'not-one-book' situation happen again. Here's from a happy and satisfied bookworm wishing you had a great Saturday and an awesome read-a-thon -- if you're participating! Happy reading everyone!

  1. *sigh* glad you are now well equipped again!

I just bought also City of Bones, since I heard so much good reviews and excited to read them.

I "ate" the Percy Jackson books. I started and couldn't stop anymore, you will like "The last Olympian" it ends just right and perfect:)

I haven't heard of the other ones but since I'm a sucker for awesome covers I will have a look into Angelology and Beautiful Boy.

Looking forward to read your reviews about them!

  2. You picked up some great books. A Ring of Endless Light is one of my favorite L'Engle books-I've read it about 20 times and I still love it!

  4. I still find it shocking that you ran out of books! In fact my friends and I discussed that last night when I told them about "this crazy thing I read on a book blog last week!" You got some great ones. The Lost City of Z is a great read, The D'Aulaires Greek Mythology book was an absolute favorite when I was a tween, and Ring of Endless Light is a novel I've lugged around from dorm to dorm to apartment to apartment to condo, so you know it's certainly beloved, although I've not reread it in probably 20 years. I really want to read The Man Who Loved Books Too Much, too! Have fun!

  6. @Mrs. Vanquish: I am quite excited for About A Boy as well. It is told through a father's point of POV about his son going through meth addiction.
I too "ate" the Percy books, but like I said, I didn't want the series to end so I skipped the last one for a few weeks, haha.
Thanks! Glad to be well-equipped again!

@Allie: Thank you! L'Engle is one of my favorite authors, and I can't believe I have never read A Ring of Endless Light. I might actually read that first -- after The Last Olympian!

@naida: Thanks! And btw I'm glad you had a much better weekend compared to your work week! :)
I've always wanted to read The Man Who Loved Books Too Much. I rarely buy books though, unless it's from a used/discount store or I know for sure it's already a good read -- so I decided to just wait for a copy for me to be available from the library.

@Carin: Oh believe me, I was quite shocked myself. Never again though!! haha.
I'm glad to hear you liked some of them! And I am super excited to read Ring of Endless Light and the Mythology book. I might read those first actually -- after The Last Olympian.

@Adriana: Thank you! And yes, I agree, now I don't have to worry too much. I'll restock for sure though for every five or so books I read. Haha. I shall be prepared! ;)
