Movie Recommendation: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Thursday, February 7, 2013

If I can recommend one movie that I saw in 2012 that I think you should see, it's probably The Perks of being a Wallflower. It's surprisingly underrated, and I don't think a lot of people paid the attention it deserves. So this post, is dedicated mainly to tell you that you must watch this when it comes out on DVD on February 10th.

I went into watching this film without really expecting anything, mainly because I always have lower expectations for movie adaptations. And I loved this book when I first read it when I was in high school. But I was pleasantly surprised for sure. This movie was flawless, in my opinion. Everything about it... I absolutely loved.

I love the pace, the overall development, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the writing. Most especially though, I loved the actors that played these dear characters. I give kudos to all of them, but especially to Logan Lerman, who plays the story's lovable main character. I don't want to say much about it, since I really don't want to give away anything, but let's just say his portrayal of him was heartbreakingly realistic.

Watch it! And then let me know what you think of it. If you have seen it, let me know what you thought. I understand some people have said they took a couple of stuff out from the book, but I think that they did an awesome job fitting in what was essential. I can't wait to re-watch this!

  1. I'm eagerly awaiting my DVD preorder of this one! I loved the book when I read it last year, but I missed the movie at the cinema. By the time we were able to go it was only on about twice a week, at Ridiculous O'Clock at night - I was gutted. I think it should arrive on Saturday though, so not long now! I am a big fan of Logan Lerman and an even bigger fan of Ezra Miller, so I have high hopes for them as Charlie and Patrick. Eeeeek, I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE WEEKEND! :)

  2. I've seen so many good reviews about the book and the movie, I'll have to check it out now for myself.

  3. I loved the book, so like you I was nervous about the movie. It was wonderful though! I can't recommend it highly enough. I just thought they did such an incredible job with it.

  4. I think the movie didn't make a big impression here in the UK, though I may be wrong - I was vaguely aware that it was coming soon to cinemas, and then was gone again. This surprised me because it and the book is so huge on the book blogs - I guess we live in a different world from the non-book-bloggers. I can't wait to see it when it comes out on DVD.

  5. I loved the movie, too! I think it really made all the difference, having the author be also the writer for the script and the director. I have to say though, that I kind of hated Emma Watson as Sam. Her american accent was pretty terrible and it's all I could think about when you spoke. The other actors were excellent though!

  6. It's good to know this one stands out. I haven't read this one so I'm guessing I should read the book first.

  7. Boasts one of 2012's best live-wire performances in the form of Ezra Miller's exuberantly gay high school senior.
