The Undomestic Goddess

Another Sophie Kinsella chic lit about another heroine, this time named Samantha Sweeting. A hard working lawyer on the verge of getting promoted to the position she has always dreamed of until she makes probably the worst work-related decision and commits a mistake that leads her to run away. She finds herself in the outskirts of the English countryside. She knocks on the door of someone’s house, but was mistaken to be a housekeeper. Figuring she needed to get away anyway, she takes the job and pretends all the way to be a housekeeper even though she does not have any idea how to be one.

Yes, this is a predictable book and has not much depth, but I think that’s the point. It is just relaxing, and something you can read during the summer.

It is such a funny book too. Like I said about all of the author’s other books, this one is the same in terms of its fast-pace, fun, and lightness. I loved the main character, (like I love all of Kinsella’s other female characters). Another hit from her for me.The

Remember Me?

I am a big fan of all of Sophie Kinsella’s chic lit novels. And although this is probably my least favorite, I still liked it and enjoyed it very much. It’s your quick, summer read type of book. And if you like Sophie Kinsella, then this will deliver.

Very cute and fun, fast-read, and very light. Don’t take it too seriously, because it’s not that kind of book. It’s supposed to be… light, like I just said.

That’s the best part.

spoiler::: As soon as they got to the end with the sunflowers, the girly girl in me pretty much came out. I thought that was the best part.

Can you keep a secret?

Being a very big fan of the Shopaholic series by the same author, I knew I had to read the rest of her stuff. This particular book is about Emma Corrigan. In a sense, she has everything; a good job, a perfect boyfriend, and the big possibility of getting a promotion to her dream job. Unfortunately, things dont go as planned at a client meeting, and when she got on the plane feeling miserable and overwhelmed, she found herself confessing every secret she has. Everything from hating certain people to how she feels about underwear. She leaves the plane, thinking she would never have to see the stranger again, but of course, as if meant to be, her new boss turn out to be that man she just confessed everything to.

Funny book, I really liked this one. Another cute, fast read of a chic lit. Recommended simply because it’s fun and cute.=)

My Best Friend's Girl

This book is about Kamryn Matika, who gets a phone call from her best friend, Adele, who’s in the hospital, dying from leukemia. The only glitch is that, they haven’t even spoken in years.

Years ago, they were inseperable. Until Kamryn’s fiance cheated on her by sleeping with Adele.

Now Adele calls her to ask for forgiveness before she dies, and for something else. She’s asking Kamryn to adopt her five-year old daughter.

So this is a story about Kamryn and a five-year old girl and their lives together. A story about forgiveness, healing, loss, grief, love, and growing up along with life’s little surprises.

I personally loved this book. When I picked it up, I thought that it would be just another book that I could use to pass time. Chapters in, I couldn’t even put it down. Honestly, the story isn’t anything new or anything exceptional. Nothing was astounding about it. I just really enjoyed reading this one because 1) I like Kamryn (though she could be very annoying sometimes) and 2) The little girl is so cute.

Halfway in, I find myself surprised by the many twists and turns of the story. ::SPOILERS:: I liked the love triangle as well between ex-fiance and her new boyfriend. I personally did not like Nate, I liked Luke a lot. I loved how it ended.

The story itself is cute, light and sometimes even shocking. Read this book for mere fun and enjoyment. Recommended, 7/10

Watermelon

This tells the story of Claire Webster, pregnant. On the day that she gives birth, her husband all of a sudden decides to leave her for another girl. An older girl. It tells the story of Claire’s recovery, physically and emotionally, as she stays with her eccentric family while trying to raise her child all at the same time. When her husband realizes his mistake and apologizes to Claire, will she be able to forgive him? Will she be able to let him in her life and her daughter’s life again?

I did like the way the story was written, even though this type of plot has been done way too many times. I didn’t really mind, it was just a quick, fun summer read. Nothing too special about this chic lit. It didn’t really stand out as much as I had hoped. Even though I enjoyed reading this book, I don’t think I would read any of Marian Keyes’ other books. Sorry, to say. Maybe someday.

The Friday Night Knitting Club

Simply put, this book is about a group of different people, mostly girls, who meet every friday night at a knitting shop owned by Georgia Walker and daughter. They come there to learn how to and improve on their knitting, which eventually leads to all of them getting along (and some of them, not so much) and turns into a friday night support group of friends. Different characters with different scenarios and situations, the book goes into details about their lives in third-person POV.

Personally, it was a very quick summer read. It was fun, cute, touching, all at the same time. Think Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants for the adults, only there are more than four girls. I didnt quite expect the ending, but it was a good one. Overall, a fast read that you can devour if you have the time.
