Reading Habits!

Sunday, May 16, 2010

First of all, I just wanted to say I saw the movie Kickass, and I have to say.. go see it! It's such a ridiculously funny movie. Haha. That's all. Now that's out of the way, here's a little questionnaire I've been seeing a lot lately. I decided to join in and answer them too.

**

Keep, throw away, or sell?
- I'll never throw books away! But to keep or not to keep, that is the question. It really depends how much I end up liking the book. If I liked it, I usually want to have my own copy of it. If I end up disliking it, why keep?

Buy or borrow?
- I usually borrow from the library first, because I don't want to spend $10+ on a book when I have no idea yet if it's good or not. If I end up liking it, that's when I purchase. If I ever buy on impulse, it'd usually be from a used bookstore, so it's a lot cheaper. Sometimes though, I do have to admit, I just give in and spoil myself and splurge. This doesn't happen often, which is a good thing. If I bought all the books I read, I'd be broke.

Stand-alone or series?
- I love both! If I end up not liking the first book in a series though, I definitely don't continue.

Favorite series?
- You all know what my favorite series are --> here.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
- I'm pretty sure someone has heard about this book before, and have read it. But I'll choose this one just because a copy of this one is a bit difficult to find. It's The Complete Stories of Flannery O' Connor.

Favorite books of all time?
- Can you say most difficult question of all time?? Haha.

What are you reading right now?
- Lament by Maggie Stiefvater. So far, soooo good!

What are you reading next?
- Maybe.. The Maze Runner or Nanny Returns.

Do you ever smell books?
- All. The. Time.

Do you snack while you read?
- I usually don't. If I do have a snack in front of me, I'd be so caught up with reading that I never get to eat it at all.

What is your favorite drink while reading?
- Tea! English breakfast with milk, always. During the day, sometimes, iced green tea. If I'm outside though at a cafe or something, I order coffee.

Do you tend to mark your books, or does the idea of writing on them horrify you?
- It definitely horrifies me. In high school, almost everyone in my English class do this and it just freaks me out.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of the chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
- I have to have some sort of a closure before stopping.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
- No, I don't look it up right away, just because I don't want to stop reading. Haha. Usually, I try to figure it out through context clues. Then, when I'm finished reading the chapter, I can look it up.

What is the last book you bought?
- I bought two -- for only $6. It's The Maze Runner and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Favorite time/place to read?
-
I usually read at night. But I do try to read anytime I can.. I always have a book with me. As for my favorite place, it'd be on my bed. Or the couch in the living room.

Is there a specific book/author that you keep recommending over and over again?
- Yes! The Book Thief, and all of Markus Zusak's books. Tess Gerritsen, also.

How do you organize your books on your bookshelf?
- They're all kind of all over the place right now, but soon, I will arrange them according to genre. (And maybe, even put labels on them -- thanks to Amelia of Imagination in Focus for the inspiration!)

That's all! Have you done this and will you do this anytime soon? I'd like to read your answers too. Just leave a comment with your link. Have a great Sunday, everyone! And happy reading, as always.

  3. Ooh, I filled this out on my blog! AND, I own a copy of The Complete Stories of Flannery O'Connor. I got it from a thrift store a few years ago. Haven't read it yet, but I plan on it, one of these days. :)

  5. @YA Vampire Books: I had a lot of fun reading others as well, and doing this too. If you ever do it, I'd love to read yours!

@Stephanie: What edition is it? I also have a copy of it, but I have one that was published in 2005. I kind of am on a search for the original one! Online, it is $20. A bit pricey, but I might just give in one of these days.. ;)

@Simcha: I read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn before, and I also enjoyed it very much. I'd love to hear what you think of The Maze Runner if you get to finish it before me :)
