Genre: Children's/ Young Adult/ Independent Reader : Fantasy Fiction
Source: Purchased
Synopsis: Kendra and her brother, Seth, are to be sent for two weeks at their grandparent's house while their parents go for a vacation. They do not know much about their grandparents, as they were never really close with them. But what they never expected was to find out that their grandparents are actually the current caretakers of a hidden sanctuary called Fablehaven.
Fablehaven is a secret refuge where mystical creatures like fairies, imps, ogres, and other beings are kept safe. It is beautiful as it is dangerous.
At first, Kendra and Seth are having nothing but harmless fun and games with their new found knowledge about this magical land. However, when the rules are broken, things might go just a little too far...

Review: Fairies, imps, witches, ogres... to tell you the truth, I've read all about them before. However, Fablehaven goes an extra mile. The author, Brandon Mull, has created a wonderful world of magic, adventures, and mystical creatures in the first book in this exciting series. Through his writing -- and wonderful prose -- he is able to paint a clear and vivid picture of the land and its inhabitants. In fact, they are so clear that I found myself pausing once in a while, as I try to form my own images in my head as I read. The beautiful world of Fablehaven is definitely something that I didn't mind getting lost in, even for just a few days. By the end of this book, I was left craving for more!
As for the main characters, Kendra and Seth, I thought they were believable as heroes and heroines in the making. You just can't help but feel as if you have known them for a while now. Yes, they obviously still have a lot of growing up to do, but I find that that is actually the beauty of their characters. I just can not wait to see how they grow and become more mature as the story goes on.
Overall, I thought that this was a highly entertaining read that was extremely well-written and perfectly told. That being said, I highly recommend this to anyone of any age, who enjoys this kind of read -- mostly to junior readers (10+) and older -- as it truly is captivating. For lack of a better word, this book is just plain awesome. 5 stars!!!
