Favorite book couple?

Saturday, March 20, 2010

In almost every book, there's bound to be a romantic pairing involved. I noticed and think that, though this aspect of a book is technically not necessary all the time, it's one of the most interesting parts for me. It shows and builds character development, shows their real emotions and thoughts, that makes us readers empathize with them.. among other things. True, the lack of romantic pairings does not affect what I think of a story, but I have to admit, at times, it certainly helps. It's just a wonderful thing, to read about these people. At times, even, they are able to put us readers into an emotional roller coaster ride -- and make us feel sad, happy, and giddy in just a matter of pages. When book couples are capable of that, that's when we -- or at least I -- know that they're effective.

In no particular order, here are my all-time favorite book "couples."

1. Henry De Tamble and Claire Abshire
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

2. Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter
A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks

3. Ron and Hermione
Harry Potter series - J.K. Rowling

4. Allie and Noah
The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks

- I actually put them here because of the movie version. But because they are book characters, I had to add them here :)

5. Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte

6. Severus Snape and Lily Potter
- yes, you read it right ;)
Harry Potter series - J.K. Rowling

7. Liesel Meminger and Rudy Steiner
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak

There you have it. I know some of them aren't technically couples, but I put them there anyway not because of the 'relationship status' but because of how they feel with and about each other, period.

How about you? Who are your favorite couples (or maybe even love stories) from books?

  8. @Morgan: I read that book when I was around 14 or 15, and I still love them the same way 6 years later.

    @Bookventures: Thank you!

@Shantal: Shiver is in my TBR list, and have been hearing so much good things about it! I can't wait!

@Elise: I have been hearing so much about The Mortal Instruments. Actually, I visited a forum asking this very same question, and a lot of people answered Clary and Jace. Hm.. I might have to add that to my TBR list as well.

@Susan: For the classics, I'm definitely for Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester. I agree with Anne and Gilbert though :)

@Jillilah: I smile -- and cry still -- like an idiot too.

  9. Wow, I agree with all of these! Instead of Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester though, for my favorite classic couple would still be Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy.

You were just asking about interesting memes, Jillian, and I think I see a potential one right here!

If you made yourself a nice badge, got an account with McLinky or Mr. Linky, expanded each couple into a post, you could host your own weekly meme! ;)
